When grief enters the heart, it becomes a stranger, and the heart may blame God for its sorrow.

“I am weary with my groaning; All night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears.” Psalm 6:6

Trish Kensworthy lost the love of her life, her husband. In her thirty years, she never imagined she would become a young widow facing unbearable grief. Although life’s joy surrounds her, Trish feels a profound void, even amid the laughter of her two young sons. The Port View community has given her a new start and hope for the future. How will God fit into a young widow’s life?

Did you ever ask the question: why do crows perch themselves on top of pine trees?

AS THE CROW FLIES

Cloaked in dark apparel,
wrapped upon your frame;
sleek and stately as can be.
My feathered friend fumbles
about on the teetering treetop;
replacing the Christmas star—
becoming the center of attraction
in a pine too tall for me to climb.

Why do you perch on treetops;
solitary soldier and skydiver?
Is your vigilance for safety?
A lookout for hawk, owl, or man?
Are you sitting in surveillance
to pass time, time, time?
Or the joy of lingering where warm
gales dance up woody branches?

Perch yourself on tippy-top
where there is a wider view;
unobstructed pastoral land,
fertile fields of food—
Flap with great jubilee at
a panoramic perspective.
Be ready to battle predators
from your tower in the sky.

The sky held works of art last September in forms difficult to capture. Daydreaming clouds shifted, floated, and lured me to poetry found only in the language of the sky.

IN THE HEAVENS

Up somewhere in the heavens,
higher than helium balloons
float from weeping hands;
above buoyant bubbles
burst forth from suffering;
beyond winged creatures
who come and then go;
there’s a lofty place—
where man cannot go
while he still resides
on this global Earth,
or travels a road of sin.

Eyes observe the wrapping
of clouds like building blocks,
dancing whipped cream forms
leisurely traveling across
azure pools of atmosphere;
seen is a desirable gift
rare, raw, remarkable—
yet mind is unable
to declare what is tucked;
beyond—where God Himself
does reside, and is ready
to receive a repenting soul.

“But as it is written:

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,Nor have entered into the heart of man. The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

I Corinthians 2:9
