Jemi’s Noble Quest, a story of Creation; A Novel Quilt

I was so excited for this next quilt challenge; A Novel Project. Of course, there can be several meanings to “novel project”. I took it at face value and depicted my very first book I wrote, “Jemi’s Noble Quest”.

As a writer, there’s nothing more exciting than one’s first published book. “Jemi’s Noble Quest” is the story of creation. It holds adventure and some mystery. Written in Bible times, it brings to life the Jewish culture.

On the bottom right-hand of the quilt, is my interpretation of Leviathan. A bit comical portrayal, but the best I can do with my sewing abilities and simple machine. This is a creature Jemi’s meets in the story. The butterflies on the left, reflect a prayer Jemi cherishes (see below). As for the zebra, Stripes, you’ll need to read the book which is available on Amazon as a paperback or ebook.

“If only we could have wings like a butterfly, our burdens would be lifted high to the heavens and God’s shower of blessings would fall to our feet.”

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12

Jemi’s Noble Quest

Come meet Jemi as she travels back in time to the first days of Creation. Weep and cry with her as she discovers her inner spiritual abilities. Join her as she trusts God through trial after trial. Jemi’s noble quest will not easily be forgotten, as this young woman seeks the meaning to her life.

For years during Jemi’s childhood, she listened to the great stories of Job’s sorrowful but rewarding life. She spent her days dreaming of ancient creatures; Behemoth with his bronze stature and Leviathan from the depths of the sea.

Jemi is now ready for a journey. However, she will experience things unbelievable along the way of her noble quest. Time and time again, Jemi will struggle and fail. Yet in the end, her heart will be drawn to the memories of an ancestor who showed fortitude in the most extreme circumstances

Jacob’s Narrow Journey

“Jacob’s Narrow Journey” reveals that the true journey is not through the desert sands, but rather the personal wilderness that we all encounter. Pilgrimages can serve to instill a true peace which we all can encounter in a growing relationship with God.

In an adventure, not soon to be forgotten, Jacob makes a spiritual journey into manhood as we travel with him in “Jacob’s Narrow Journey”. This is the sequel and second book in the “I Am the Light” series. It reveals the continued saga of life which is centered during early New Testament times. The story unveils a sincere scenario of the hardships, joys and even a bit of true love.

Jacob’s bloodline filters down from the Biblical character of Job. Jacob’s mother, Jemi, has kept their heritage alive with recounted tales. A shadow of her earlier adventures, from the first book in this series, “Jemi’s Nobel Quest”, builds on the continued foundation for her family.

Travel with Jacob’s family as they are uprooted. The reader will journey from the Great Sea, through the desert and end at the Sea of Galilee. During their travels they will meet all types of controversy. Each storm of life will touch them in different ways.

Book Release

“Jacob’s Narrow Journey” is the sequel to “Jemi’s Noble Quest”. Both books are part of the I Am the Light series. It will be released later this year. If you haven’t had the time to read the first book, perhaps it can be added to you summer reading program.

Jacob’s Narrow Journey is a story of loss and hope. The story is set back two thousand years. The reader will join Jemi, Rezin and Jacob as they venture through the Jezreel and Jordan valleys. What are they searching for? That is something you’ll need to take the time to read!

Kenziah stepped toward Jemi, “You have been ready for this day since Rezin brought you out from the desert. We all thought you had died. Not Rezin he searched for you until he found you.” Kenziah fixed the veil about Jemi’s face. “You will grow in love together as long as you seek God’s wisdom. Your bridegroom has arrived. It’s time…”

chapter one

So much death had filled the streets of Dor. Many large graves were dug to bury the dead bodies which were stacked atop each other. There were no processions, no wailers or doleful music being played. The stench of rotting corpse filed the air which once had been perfumed with delicious spices.

chapter four

Jacob looked out at the storm and then glanced at Abigail. He saw panic in her eyes. Though he dreaded their present state, something inside emerged. A peace washed over him. Then a great desire surfaced to shield her from the roaring wind and scattering sands. A tinge of guilt settled in his heart. He had been nasty to her these past few weeks. Jacob’s crude behavior had built a wall between them and his parents. Just as he was about to offer her shelter, Abigail moved closer to Rezin and Jemi. His father gathered her next to his mother and secured his strong arms around both of them. Jacob sat alone. The spark of resentment which had almost been defused flared up into a raging storm of its own.

Jemi’s Home In Dor

Images of Life in Dor from the book Jemi’s Noble Quest

Finally, the last meal of the day would be served. Fathers and sons all over the village would make plans for the next day. They would check fishing tools, mend nets and talk of the largest catch of the day. Here is where Jemi felt sadness for her father because he had no sons to help with the labor or to talk with him regarding men’s affairs.

Houses in Dor during this time we’re very much like the diagram above. Extra living space was available on the flat roof. The family had no animals, since Jemi’s father was a fisherman.

Once everyone was at the table, Jemi’s father gave the blessing for the food. “ God of our Father Abraham and Job, we ask Your blessings upon this meal. We ask for strength for another day and wisdom for the next.”

Jemi’s Noble Quest

The table in this photo is not what I envisioned as I wrote Jemi’s Noble Quest. It would have been high enough for a wooden chair and benches to fit under it. It was the conversation place where decisions were made. More importantly, where things of God we’re taught. The simplicity of the room does capture the time period of Dor during the Intertestamental Period. This was when God was silent to His people. It is often referred to as, “the four hundred silent years”.

The wind caught her crimson shawl dropping it to the dusty ground while water sprinkled from the jar she carried atop her head.

Jemi’s Noble Quest

Jemi’s shawl was made of the finest wool unlike the fiber above. It was hand dyed by her deceased mother whose artistic ability was well known on the streets of Dor.

Jemi walked toward the outdoor oven and placed the saucer of dough next to an earthen oven which sat low to the ground.

Jemi’s Noble Quest

I know some grumble and complaint about cooking today. I can’t imagine what it was like to cook during this time period. Life was simple, so I assume meals were simple too.

This was just a small glimpse in Jemi’s world. Each weekend I hope to share more of Jemi’s quest through photos similar to the book, Jemi’s Noble Quest, available on Amazon. Thanks for stopping in…
