Empty Streams

There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. Psalm 46:4

Two streams amble down a nodding knoll
and cheerfully I would journey both.
A single voyager, now quite whole
and gaze downhill to the ending goal;
to where they join in an overgrowth.

Together at early dusk they flow;
as waves prepare, paddle quickly past.
A sunset surplus on water’s glow;
I’m frayed on just which way to go
unsure how lengthy the waters last.

I may guess life’s ending question ‘why’?
Deep and wide the wintry water’s swell;
somehow long years do pass me by.
With weighty relief I reveal a sigh;
both passages one may surely dwell.

Monday: Harmony

A few weeks ago, I enjoyed an usual sight.

During my early morning walk I spotted a few dozen birds out in a farmer’s field. As I looked closer, I realized there were two different species. A gangle of geese munching on grass and a troop of turkeys doing the same thing.

If two species of birds could get along in the same field, why is it people struggle with being in the same place? Maybe we have forgotten God’s original plan of living in harmony.

I do understand that creatures in nature are very different from people. Also, there are animal groups who get aggressive. But today it was refreshing to see nature at peace. If we could only remember that through Christ we could live our lives in great harmony.

Therefore if you have any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose.

The Wood

He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:8

they hurry down dirty path to hide.
I stop in wonder, to feel fall’s breeze!
Would summer shuffle in sullen stride,
as leaf dies falling from dying trees?

The leaf does fall from dying trees,
as Autumn strikes with early flare;
where lingers summer dusty breeze
and blows the leaf in open air.

I stroll the empty forest lane
where birds once sang a lullaby;
the timber and branch now wane
while squirrels scamper so sly

Pinky’s Debut… In the next “Alexis Ann’s Amazing Adventures”!

Pinky!

Of course, Pinky’s favorite book is Stormy Seas! However, that will change soon when the new Alexis Ann’s Amazing Adventures is released later this year and she is in it!

In this story Alexis will tell us about Jonah and his struggles with God. We will meet the cousins too. Oh, and there’s a BIG storm.

I just can’t wait to share “SERIOUSLY, A SPLASH!” with early readers. It’s going to be SO much fun.

Alexis says, “See you later alligator!”

Alexis Ann’s Amazing Adventures, Stormy Seas is available on Amazon. It is the first book in this series written by Patti Wolf

Monday: Reading Signs

Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Matthew 24:30

There seems to be a lot of signs on the roads of late. Just last week a gas line was put in down my road. It was very clear, to anyone driving by, that there would be a bit of a delay.

This got me thinking of other signs. Are we reading spiritual signs of our day? What kind of spiritual sign are we looking for?

Commentaries vary regarding the sign in the above Matthew verse. Some say it is Christ Himself, maybe a star and then there’s the emblem of the cross. I like the idea of the cross. The cross being a representation of Jesus’ suffering for the sin of man.

At some point, in this miraculous event, Jesus Christ Himself will be seen in all His heavenly glory. Many will mourn for they did not believe in His saving faith. Yet, all will see. This will be a pandemic like no other.

If you don’t know the Son of Man or if you have forgotten to live a life to serve Him, please read the signs and don’t delay. Now is the time to keep your eyes on Jesus.

Wings & Things

For I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me.

Psalm 51:3

On pavement clings
sweet butterfly wings;
broken bitter things.

MAN’S SIN

Cold slowly shuffles in
withered leaves a brim
as sunny piles grow dim;

GOD’S FORGIVENESS

hence no where to fly.
Tears of joy to cry;
sacrificed Lamb to die.

Monday’s Road Trip

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God

I Corinthians 10:31

During this time of the year, there seems to be a call to meander country roads. Wide spaces are filled with golden corn fields and woodlands shout with a multitude of fall colors. It is the last hurrah before winter winds blow in with long weeks of more indoor living.

Living is and odd word. Does it mean to be alive and breathing? Is it the paycheck one brings home and how we make a living? Is it the pursuits in one’s life style? Maybe it is how we live.

“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Apparently, the Bible asks us to use our lives to glorify God. This can be done by how we do everyday simple things in our lives. All is to honor God.

Whether it’s a stroll through a maple tree forest, a bike ride along a river or a slow car ride down a country winding road; it is a beautiful time to enjoy God’s endless creation. It’s also a time to contemplate and reflect on any changes that might need to be made. Every season of life can see improvements.

As the natural world around us is changing, consider what God may be directing you to modify. Everyday can be a road trip adventure!

Season of Grace

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrew 4:15

They change before my eyes:
translucent, transparent telling
of coming changes chanting
their farewells across the sky.

If trees could talk what would
be said of their transformation?
Would willows weep or birches
balk as their leaves are wisp away?

Maples seem to chatter in wind;
while oaks remain stately and only
rumble, rattle, roar as autumn exits
clinging to their crisp leaves till spring.

My life could be as those sturdy oaks
torn by stormy winds on darken days,
as seasons change by hand of God I
choose to cling to Him until spring again!

Monday: Reunions

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another,and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:24-25

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law came to visit from New York along with last Sunday’s threatening down pour. Charcoal grey skies welcomed them after their long journey. At the same time a certain football team looked like amateurs. On that same day, we celebrated a milestone birthday. What a filled Sunday.

As we enjoyed our week of renewing family relationships, something I think everyone should do to keep channels open and make memories, I thought of Sunday.

Sunday’s are special. Once upon a time, when I was a child, most businesses were closed on Sundays. Mama made chicken soup, we played table games and mostly rested. Those days have disappeared from our society.

Some, who still attend a church, have the opportunity on Sundays to reunite on a weekly basis with people. Working together to better a community, to give testimony of what God is doing in their lives or to help build one’s faith often is the heart of church.

Sunday afternoons can be a time to grow relationships up over a simple meal. Even Christ had His inner group of people He shared meals with. Yes, it can also be a time of cheering or complaining of your favorite sport’s team. I usually listen to the family’s conversation between the plays. They go far past sports talk.

I did have a wonderful week of reconnecting with family; people we see but once a year. However, the week’s events also gave me insight into the importance of nurturing all my relationships on a regular basis.

Think of how you can grow in Christ and in the relationship you have with others.

When Autumn Comes

I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Psalm 27:13-14

The coolness of the
forest on a fall day
embraces my very soul.
It is where I ran when
you no longer breathed
the breath of life.

The birds sang,
as ripples of sorrow
stained supple spots;
embarrassed for the
tears which lingered
along the brook.

It is there grief
washed away with
dirt, dust and debris.
The scent of autumn
leaves crackled with
each sauntering steps.

Eager I was to forget,
move on and leave
behind my mourning;
It is what I want you
to do, when it’s my turn
to return to the earth.

P. Wolf, Author of the “I Am the Light” series
Autumn brings memories of death. It is when both my parents passed away within a year of each other. For some reason, I always felt they would live forever. Though it has been 20 years, that grief lingers even as I have moved on. How does one move on from loss? By taking heart and waiting on the Lord. That is where true strength comes from.
